Hope for Food Addicts

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO Be AN ADDICT?

Addictions, according to the latest medical studies, are a physical disease. Addiction is a physical disease, which manifests itself when there are certain brain chemicals Out of balance. An addict attests to feeling below normal.  The addictive person perceives others to feel better than them. Knowing they should feel better, a sensation of “something is missing” takes over. Grabbing a substance that triggers specific mood altering brain chemicals is a way of “self medicating”. The drug of choice usually brings an addict to a feeling of normalcy.

Addictions are progressive.  Over time, the disease worsens with or without indulging in its cravings.

If as a food addict, you abstain from simple carbohydrates for ten years.  At the end of that decade, you decide to begin eating them again.  You will find the cravings are as bad as if you never stopped consuming them.  You will desire the larger quantities much quicker than before.

With the medical community labeling addictions as a physical disease, its interesting to note that the answer for healing provided by them is in the spirit realm.

I’ve never heard of anyone going to the doctor with diabetes, or the flu, and being told to “lean on a higher power and take it one day at a time.”

I believe it is the only disease known that the scientific community relies on a spiritual higher power for treatment and pain management.

Sitting through a nalanon class, I carefully listened to a man talk for forty five minutes regarding the idea that a higher power can be a chair.  He was desperately trying to convince the room they did not need a god of religions, but anything they chose to worship would work. The longer I sat, the more ridiculous the argument sounded.  If a chair could be my spiritual leader, then the world is very frightening.  Being afraid of turning people off by talking about God, he erred toward the extreme. Realizing this man wasn’t going to stop talking until he received a response, I nervously stood.  The room applauded as I announced name.  “I have a question”, was directed toward the leader.  “What is wrong with a real God? Are we so ignorant we actually think a chair is going to save us?” I was relieved when the room responded favorably.

Help! I'm addicted to food!
